Navs Sign Three Division I Players

Lynn, Massachusetts --

The North Shore Navigators have announced that they have signed three Division I players for the upcoming summer season. Rob Cashel, Joe Love, and John Hennessy have all agreed to join Navigator Nation in an attempt to bring home a championship to Lynn this summer. The announcement came from Head Coach Jon Cahill on Friday afternoon at Fraser Field.

Rob Cashel, a red-shirt freshman outfielder at Northern Colorado University, is from Park City, Utah. While in high school, Cashel lettered eight times, four each in baseball and football. Cashel was also named to the all-state and all-region teams in both his junior and senior seasons. As a senior captain, Cashel led his team with a .512 batting average, while leading the entire region with 31 stolen bases. Powered by Cashel, his high school team finished within the top six his final three years. Cashel also excels in the classroom by being named to the honor roll his final three years of high school. Son of Kent and Diane, Rob is studying sports and exercise science.

Joe Love, a sophomore infielder at Northern Colorado University, is from Danville, California. Last season at Diablo Valley, Love played in all 42 games hitting .277 as a third-baseman. Love also was third on the team with ten doubles, while accumulating 16 RBIs. Love was also successful in his only stolen base attempt. Love was also tied for fourth on the team with 47 hits. Love also ranked sixth in the Big 8 Conference with walks. Son of Mike and Nancy, Joe is studying criminal justice.

Northern Colorado head coach Carl Iwasaki is excited for his players as he said, “Rob Cashel and Joe Love are two very athletic players with a very high ceiling at the Division I level. They both will be impact players in our upcoming 2013 campaign and we look forward to seeing what they can do in their first year with us at Northern Colorado.”

John Hennessy, a junior infielder, is from Andover, Massachusetts. Last season, Hennessy started 36 games at second and third base for the Eagles hitting .271, while putting up a .396 on-base percentage. Hennessy also accumulated 32 hits, 15 runs, 14 RBIs, and 20 walks. Hennessy also hit .279 in ACC play. Head coach Mike Gambino is confident of Hennessy’s skills as he said, “John brings a ton of versatility to any ball club he’s on as well as a veteran presence with great leadership qualities. He’s a solid defender that can play short, second and third and a left-handed bat that has gotten a lot of AB’s in the ACC over his career. He is also a great addition to any clubhouse because of his work ethic, character and because he is growing into a very good leader on and off the baseball field.”

Earlier this week, Hennessy went 2-2 in Boston College’s season opener against the Boston Red Sox.

The Navigators home opener is Saturday, June 8th at 7:00 PM. Season tickets and party deck reservations are available now by calling the Navs at (781) 595-9400. For details and schedule information “like” us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter.
