Big Performances as Future Navs Gear Up for Postseason

LYNN, Mass. — Here are the latest college highlights for the team's incoming players:
Rhode Island catcher Danny Leikus's incredible tear hit a new gear this past week, as the sophomore sensation went 9-for-14 with three doubles, a home run, seven runs scored and six RBI to lead the Rams in an important Atlantic 10 series victory at Davidson. Leikus knocked four of his hits in Saturday's 17-7 win. His season average has ballooned to .356, and his OPS to .931.
One of the most impressive single-game performances of the last week came from Bryant's Hunter Kingsbury. The Governor's Academy product from Byfield ripped his third home run of the season and added a two-run double to finish 2-for-5 in Tuesday's 20-10 win at Merrimack. Kingsbury has an even 30 runs scored and 30 RBI on the year.
With conference tournaments a week away for the majority of the Division 1 ranks, High Point keeps rolling along at the top of the Big South standings as winners of four consecutive games. Lane Allen made a difference once again, capping the Panthers' four-run comeback by hitting a walk-off sacrifice fly in the 10th inning of Friday's series-opening, 9-8 win against Winthrop. Allen drove in runs in two of his team's three victories on the weekend.
Speaking of postseason play, Peabody native Danati Fronduto hit a three-run homer to break open an eventual 8-3 win for San Jacinto against Tyler during Saturday's action at the NJCAA Region XIV Tournament. He drove in four runs across two recorded playoff appearances last weekend and had nine RBI in his last seven games in total. Fronduto boasts a .350 average, 10 homers and 46 RBI for the season, which is good for a 1.103 OPS.
Simmi Whitehill's Monmouth team took on Michael Brown and Hofstra in a CAA weekend series matchup featuring two North Shore infielders. Whitehill hit a two-run homer in Sunday's series-clinching, 18-10 win for the Hawks and reached in all three games after having his long on-base streak snapped at 38 straight games. On the other side, the leadoff-hitting Brown went 2-for-3 with a double to lift the Pride in the series opener, a 7-3 win on Friday. He drove in three runs on the weekend.
For Dayton, Grayson Carpenter had three hits and three RBI in a series against George Mason. Another strong weekend in his freshman campaign was highlighted by a game-tying solo homer in the seventh inning on Saturday. Jason Bello is now riding a nine-game hit streak after recording hits in each game, scoring two runs and driving in another in an 11-6 Friday win. Also on Saturday, John Delgado lowered his season ERA for the fourth consecutive start. The southpaw pitched 6.2 innings, allowing one earned run while striking out six.
Out of the bullpen, Northeastern turned to Thomas Mahoney to clinch its latest CAA series win against Stony Brook, as he recorded a strikeout in a 1-2-3 inning of work. The Winchester native has now logged five consecutive scoreless appearances (four innings) and has at least one strikeout in his last four outings. North Andover's Robert Brown also tossed a scoreless frame at the end of Penn State's Big Ten series opener against Washington on Friday.
Navigators returnee Cole Yennaco earned the Sunday win to cap off his Merrimack squad's second straight MAAC sweep against Saint Peter's, working a season-long 2.2 innings and striking out a pair. Yennaco has a 3.65 ERA in 24.2 innings on the season.
